We are introducing a new feature on the CCNA website: real estate postings. These postings are intended to be the digital age equivalent of the one-sheet that you typically find in the realtor boxes on properties that are up for sale. So rather than pulling over and grabbing a sheet of paper (assuming there are any left and they’re not all soaking wet), just click on the image in the post.
Here’s how we intend to add these real estate postings. When we hear about a new listing on the Crest (we subscribe to a realtor search-engine query that sends us information whenever there are new listings) we go grab the main picture from the MLS site, create a post here on this website, and link the picture to the original MLS (Multiple Listing Service) page. That’s it!
We would like to clarify what these real estate postings on culvercrestna.org will not be:
- An exhaustive list: Each posting is individually done by hand. The set of posts on culvercrestna.org are not the equivalent of a computer-generated search. If you’re using culvercrestna.org as your primary search tool for property availability in Culver Crest, may we suggest you’re in the wrong place!
- An indication of the property’s availability: When we find out that a place has come up for sale, we add a post. But once it’s on our website (which is basically a blog), there it remains, even if it has sold or been taken off the market. The only thing you can infer from a posting is that the property was put on the market once upon a time.
- Guaranteed to be timely: we may be out of town when your place goes on the market, so there is no guarantee that we’ll add it. But you’re more than welcome to let us know if we missed it, or to give us a heads-up that we should keep an eye out for it.
- An endorsement of any particular realtor: The MLS listing usually contains the selling realtor’s contact information. Should you desire to purchase, we highly recommend you enlist the services of a qualified realtor who is acting on your behalf as buyer. We have several really good ones in the Crest.
Finally, a large part of the reason for adding real estate posts on culvercrestna.org is to add pictures and keep the website fresh. Also, over time, we expect to have pictures of many of the houses here on the Crest. A visitor looking for more information about what our neighborhood looks like might see all the historical for-sale postings and get a better sense of the character of our neighborhood.
Fracking is short for Hydraulic Fracturing, an oil extraction technique that is used to increase the yield of oil wells by pumping high pressure water+chemicals down into the well to create cracks (fissures/fractures) in the shale, through which gas can then be extracted. The technique’s controversy arises from its use of toxic chemicals that may leach into the groundwater, and the resultant fissures that may cause earthquakes.

Here are some questions that should be asked at the Fracking Workshop to be held on June 12, 2012 at Culver City City Hall. These questions were compiled by John Kuechle, and highlight all the open-ended issues regarding this challenging subject.
From The City of Culver City:
This is a courtesy notification that the California State Department of Conservation will host a workshop to discuss the practice of hydraulic fracturing for production stimulation, commonly called fracking, in the Culver City City Council Chambers (9770 Culver Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90232) from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. This workshop is one of several being conducted as part of a comprehensive information-gathering process aimed at the development of regulations governing hydraulic fracturing. The workshop will begin with an overview of oil and gas production in California, including discussion of California’s geologic formations where oil and natural gas are found. Existing well construction requirements and what those regulations protect against will follow. The overview presentation will also focus on technical, non-policy aspects of hydraulic fracturing. Following this overview, the Department will welcome public comment. These workshops are intended as an information gathering exercise to advise the Department about specific public concerns regulations could address.More information can be found at:
Save the Date: Tuesday June 12, 2012, City Hall, Culver City
The State of California, Department of Conservation, of which the Division of Gas & Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) is a branch, will be conducting a listening tour in seven cities throughout the state. They are being “conducted as part of a comprehensive information gathering process aimed at the development of regulations governing hydraulic fracturing.” One of these will be in Culver City on June 12th, 2012, at City Hall.
Each workshop will begin with an overview of oil and gas production in California, including discussion of California’s geologic formations where oil and natural gas are found. Following this overview, the Department will welcome public comment. These workshops are intended as an information gathering exercise to advise the Department about specific public concerns regulations could address. More at Hydraulic Fracturing Workshops
Given that the listening tour may be only two hours, and that if its style replicates the recent CAP meeting on fracking, a good portion of the time will NOT be spent on listening to our concerns. To help prepare eceryone to maximize time for public input at the June 12th, 2012 event, Dr. Suzanne De Benedittis will be hosting a preparatory educational event. Contact her at MakeCCsafe@gmail.com for more information.
The Culver Crest Neighborhood Association will meet at Marycrest Manor for our Spring 2012 General Meeting. Topics include:
- Smart Meters: Pros and cons – A discussion on Southern California Edison’s push to replace existing electricity meters with “smart meters”.
- Update on Fracking – The oil extraction method known as “fracking” will be discussed with how it relates to PXP’s oil drilling operations.
